Through cultural resources and original articles, it celebrates the rich, diverse, and vibrant African identity. A true space for expression, Finkapé Roots encourages cultural reappropriation that is creative, critical, and boldly original.

OUR PROGRAM AREAS

AFRICAN HEROES & CONTEMPORARY ISSUES:

This program involves featuring of African heroes - highlighting their life and times, the issues raised and struggles, the contemporary questions still unanswered today. The program seeks to ignite the imagination of Afro-descendents on the ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ to resolve enduring setbacks towards the attainment of the African dream: neo-colonialism, institutional racism, mental slavery, economic & cultural emancipation etc

AFRICAN TRADITIONAL FASHION ENSEMBLE:

This is a celebration of African traditional fashion - a journey through the length and breath of Africa exploring the fabrics that bind us as a people. We will be showcasing the different attires from all regions that make up Africa, investigating the cultural significance of these traditions, exposing the local artisans involved in this age-long traditions and experimenting with contemporary designs for a wider appreciation globally.

EDUCATION FOR AFRO-DESCENDENT CHILDREN:

Providing culturally relevant education for Afro-descendent children, this program is geared towards the enlightenment of the minds of the future generation of Africans. Children are able to learn about the culture and traditions through story books, poems, drama, proverbs, music, festivals and other regular activities hosted by Finkape Roots. The programs also help in the general understanding of Africa and Africans by all.

ANTI-RACISM DIALOGUES AND ACTION:

Hosting events, symposiums and walks to highlight the growing and urgent need to tackle racism in all its forms. A dialogue with stakeholders and affected communities towards mutual understanding for the development of roadmaps and action plans. Embracing the UN’s 2024 resolution on anti-racism and exploring all its elements to ensure governments are urged to make policies that tackle the root causes of racism within their domains.
